Help provide blood for those in need across Mason and Thurston Counties!
Puget Sound Blood Center celebrated our involvement in Thurston and Mason Counties on October 22 by kicking off a campaign to bring a new bloodmobile and equipment truck to the area.
While we maintain a donor center just east of downtown Olympia, more than half the blood donated by residents is collected using specially-equipped trucks.
Today, bloodmobiles in the Mason/Thurston region are over-booked – taking reservations months in advance. The vehicles are over 15 years old and are nearing the end of their usefulness.
The Olympia region requires replacement of the two vehicles:
Our current vehicles can collect blood donations from 5,000 donors a year. With the new vehicles in place we will be able to receive 1,000 additional donations a year, serving 75 different donor groups in the Mason and Thurston County area.
The estimated cost of these new vehicles is $150,000. Our deadline to raise the funds to purchase these two vehicles (in cash and pledges) is June 30, 2012.
Every day patients across Western Washington need at least 900 units of blood. Community and workplace donation drives are the easiest way for many blood donors to give. When we make blood donation more convenient, we increase the blood collections that save more lives.
