  • Transaction Code: 3230-04
  • CPT Code (Suggested): 85410

Alpha-2-antiplasmin, a naturally-occurring inhibitor of fibrinolysis, is measured using a chromogenic substrate. Levels are reduced in hereditary alpha-2-antiplasmin deficiency, a rare autosomal recessive bleeding disorder. Some heterozygous individuals (40-60%) have mild bleeding tendencies. Acquired deficiencies include liver disease, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and thrombolytic therapy.
