Hemostasis Reference LaboratoryPlasminogen (Activity)
Plasminogen is the principal circulating zymogen of the fibrinolytic system, which directly opposes the coagulation cascade by degrading fibrin clots. Functional plasminogen level is determined by chromogenic substrate assay. Hereditary plasminogen deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive disorder that may be associated with recurrent venous thrombosis. Levels may also be decreased in patients with liver disease or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
