Red Cell Reference Laboratory

Thermal Amplitude

  • Transaction Code: 3140-00

This test may be indicated if the red cell reference lab has identified a red cell antibody that reacts at temperatures less than 37° C. In certain situations such as cardiac bypass, where a patient’s core temperature may be decreased to unusually cold temperatures, one may wish to know the temperature range over which the antibody will react. If indicated, the thermal amplitude test will be performed.

  • Sample Required: 7 mL EDTA
  • Normal Test Values: Will require interpretation based on the nature of the given antibody
  • Analytic Time: 24 hours if weekday, 72 hours if weekend. This test is not usually performed on a STAT basis
  • Days Test is Set Up: Monday through Sunday
