José A. López, MD is Executive Vice President for Research at Puget Sound Blood Center and in charge of guiding the expansion of the Blood Center's research program. He also is involved in his own research in hemostatic and thrombotic diseases.
Dr. López previously held the title of Vice-Chair of Medicine for Research and Scientific Director of the Thrombosis Research Section at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He is internationally acknowledged to be one of the foremost experts in platelets and vascular biology, having been recognized for his work in platelet receptors and von Willebrand factor functions. He has been recognized for his scientific accomplishments by having been elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and awarded an Established Investigatorship by the American Heart Association. In 2006, he was elected as Chair of the Gordon Conference on Hemostasis, and has received the Career Recognition Award from the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He has served on numerous grant review panels, including on national and region Study Sections of the American Heart Association, national study section for the American Society of Hematology, and on the Hematology I study section of the National Institutes of Health. He currently serves on the Hemostasis/Thrombosis Study Section of the NIH.
