The Puget Sound Blood Center in which service, management, research, and teaching have been developed together in an integrated manner for over 50 years, provides an excellent environment for such training.
Transfusion Medicine Bulletins
Puget Sound Blood Center serves as the transfusion service for the major regional medical centers based in King County. Our physicians, all hematologists who serve on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine, are available 24 hours a day for consultation regarding bleeding patients. Transfusion Medicine Bulletins are issued to physicians and transfusion service directors throughout the 14-county region we serve.
When You Need a Transfusion
A transfusion is a medical procedure to correct a deficiency of blood or its parts. A person requiring a transfusion may need whole blood or blood components added directly to the bloodstream. Each month, the Puget Sound Blood Center provides blood and laboratory services for more than 20,000 transfusions. |

Puget Sound Blood Center provides transfusion medicine consultation and education to assist physicians and medical staff throughout the region we serve. Medical Centers in our area transfused nearly 150,000 units of red cells, over 65,000 units of whole blood platelets during the past year. |
