Saving lives and improving the quality of life of our patients has been the foundation of Puget Sound Blood Center’s mission since its inception in 1944.
Blood Center volunteers, doctors and staff work to ensure a safe and stable blood supply for those who will need it, to assist medical professionals performing transfusions and to offer transfusion medical assistance to patients throughout Western Washington.
Blood Center research is also driven by a desire to make cures possible for people with bleeding disorders, like hemophilia, and blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. Our research has helped enable longer storage for blood components and longer lives for those with hemophilia. Blood Center research has also made open heart surgeries and bone marrow transplants a reality.
Our patients and volunteers provide the Blood Center with insight. This insight least to innovation. And innovation leads to better lives, longer lives and lives that wouldn’t exist without it.
